So it's been a year since I started my Masters in Education degree. It's been a looong year full of boring online classes, with courses that IMO seem to be common sense material.
Why did I decide to get the degree then?
Well, in order for a non Education degree individual to be certified in the state of Arizona to teach, 30 credit hours of Education classes of which 8 must be student teaching are required.
How many credits does it take to get the Masters degree?
Well I'll be darned... 30 credit hours at Grand Canyon University of which 12 consist of student teaching hours. Since I am already teaching, that means instead of being required to student teach, my 2 years of teaching experience will substitute for those 12 hours. This leaves me with only 18 credit hours which means 6 education classes! I've already taken 4 of the 6! That means that by the end of the Fall semester, I'll be DONE!
WHOOOP!
This means:
1. I'll be a fully certified teacher in the state of Arizona.
2. If I want to transfer to a different state to teach, I'll just have to request to transfer my certificate and maybe take a couple of tests.
3. I'll move to the "Masters" ladder on the pay scale.
4. Time to pay back student loans and be debt free.
5. It's about time to save up $$ for a house.
Is this not cool beans or WHAT?!
